Veterans Service Organizations (VSO)

Veteran Service Organizations are organizations that can serve the Veteran community in several ways:

• Advocate for Veteran issues on Capital Hill;

• Assist in submitting Appeals, Disability claims, and other benefits;

• Memorial services;

• Social clubs;

• Volunteering in their local communities; as well as other ways.

Common VSOs

Here is a list of common VSOs:

• American Legion

• American Veterans (AMVETS)

• Disabled American Veterans (DAV)

• Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)

• Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA)

• Wounded Warrior Project (WWP)

Each organization has their own dynamics and feel. So be sure to feel them out before joining.

Joining a VSO

Depending on which organization you would like to join, they may have various requirements to joining. Be it having specific service requirements as well as paying membership dues.

So be sure to look into the specifics!

Also know, if you do not meet the requirements to join the main organization you may be able to join their auxiliary programs.

• You do NOT have to be a member of an organization to use the services of their Veteran Service Officers!
